The Emperor, or Empress, was the leader of the Terran Empire.
Ascension to the throne could be achieved through various means, for example by securing military power for oneself and then threatening to use that power against the current holder of this office. Examples of people using this strategy include Commander Jonathan Archer of the ISS Enterprise, who was able to secure the USS Defiant, a ship from the future of a parallel universe, as well as Hoshi Sato, who assassinated Archer with the help of his personal guard, Sergeant Travis Mayweather, and then took the Defiant for herself.
