Zefram Cochrane was the man who led the attack against the Vulcan invasion force that arrived in Bozeman, Montana on Earth on April 5, 2063. His actions prevented humans from becoming subordinate to the Vulcans instead of the other way around.

On that fateful day, the Vulcan ship T'Plana-Hath landed in Bozeman and its captain stepped out, giving Cochrane a devious hand symbol and deceptively stating "live long and prosper". A resident of Bozeman at the time, Cochrane "greeted" the Vulcan captain with a shotgun blast to the chest, and rallied the other humans in his midst to raid the Vulcan ship for their technology.

Nearly 92 years later, the Vulcan people were subjects of the Terran Empire. Captain Maximillian Forrest kept Cochrane's shotgun in his ready room aboard the ISS Enterprise. (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly")

Archive footage of James Cromwell in his role as Cochrane from the film Star Trek: First Contact was used to portray the mirror Cochrane. He was played by an uncredited stand-in for scenes in which his back was towards the camera.
